Although hardwood flooring has been used in homes for many centuries, it is surely more modern than carpet and has never lost its popularity over time. Its surface is unique and it allows you to express your own personal style when decorating your house. There is a big variety of wood species, designs, grains and colours to choose and if you decide to change its look, you can easily do it by placing rugs in different areas.

On the other hand, having a carpet might be a much cheaper solution but it looks old-fashioned and it gives you the impression that you live in the past. This means that you might have to replace it after a short period as trends change quite fast. Except if you really want to leave in the past.

Carpets are made of synthetic materials and you can easily recognize that from how they smell. As it is obvious, these synthetic ingredients can be hazardous for those living in the space,; thus are not recommended for people suffering from allergies or asthma. Also, keep in mind that carpets tend to attract much more dust and bacteria than hardwood floors.

Hardwood floors instead have a cleaner surface and they come from a natural resource from sustainable forests. Additionally, you can easily avoid bacteria by simply wiping clean or sweeping its surface!

As mentioned above hardwood floors are easy to clean up. You can easily remove dust and stains by sweeping and then mopping the surface with warm water.

On the other hand, it is really difficult and time-consuming to remove spills and stains from a carpet, if they can be removed at all. Having a carpet means that you have to vacuum it quite often and then steam cleaning every few months, depending on how much traffic it has received.

Hardwood flooring will be cheaper than carpet in the end!

Although hardwood flooring will cost you more to purchase it is proven to be more cost-effective over the years. It responds better to wear and tear than carpets and if it is well maintained it can last for a life-time. Also, hardwood flooring will increase the value of your property in case you try to sell one day.

On the other hand carpets have to be replaced every few years and you'll have to spend money every year for steam cleaning. And of course they do not add extra value to your home.

In other words, investing in hardwood flooring will pay you back after years.
