What Are The Benefits of Engineered Wood Flooring?

Before explaining the benefits of engineered wood flooring, first let us deal with the question of what is engineered wood flooring? Engineered flooring is made from a number of layers of hardwood pressed together above plywood; it therefore offers extra strength when compared with solid wood but has the same look.

One of the benefits of this type of flooring can be seen when it comes to installing it, it has a patented locking mould which makes it both quick and easy to lay, by simply "clicking" into place. This therefore reduces installation costs and is therefore cheaper to install than solid wood.

Another benefit when it comes to installing the floor is that it can be directly fitted over concrete and also can be used with underfloor heating systems. Solid wood can have issues once installed, such as "gapping" – excess space between planks - this is not such a problem with engineered wood flooring because of its locking system.

Engineered flooring is also less likely to be affected by the humidity and so will not warp as easily as solid wood. It is therefore able to be put down in more rooms within your home, such as a conservatory or a cellar / basement.

The layering methods within engineered wood flooring mean that it is more stable because the timber layers run in different directions, much in the same way that bricks are crossed over to create the ultimate stability for the foundations of a building.

Engineered flooring is also easier to repair than solid wood flooring because a method known as "floating" is used, where the planks are not stuck to the floor underneath or to other planks.
