Is Wood Flooring Suitable For Every Room?

Are you hoping to spruce up your home this winter? Are you considering choosing wood flooring but not certain as to which rooms it would be better suited to, here are some questions to ask yourself when deciding on flooring.

How much traffic would the space get on a typical day? Any room or area, such as a hallway that has a high foot fall would need flooring that is durable.

What size is the room? Light wood flooring can open up a small room and dark wood flooring can make a large room feel cosier rather than sparse.

Would children or animals be likely to be walking across the floor? Again, with the potential of knocks and scratches the flooring choice would need to be hard wearing. Would the area be subjected to large amounts of sun light? It is the heat from the sun that can cause wood flooring to lose its colour and therefore causes the wood to lose its natural moisture and become dry. In many instances sun damage occurs in the areas directly underneath a window.

What does the rest of your home look like? When replacing flooring you should bear in mind the look and feel of the rest of your home, unless you are either starting from scratch or going for a complete overhaul. You would not one room to offset the rest of your home, if you have a home which is mainly all light wood then choosing dark wood for the room you are looking to redecorate could make it stand out for all the wrong reasons. However, if done in a complementary fashion, it's possible it could work.

Choosing the right wood flooring for each room can be difficult, however, there are options available should you choose to use wood flooring for all of the rooms in your home. Wood flooring is not a typical flooring choice for rooms likely to have excess moisture in them such as a bathroom.
