How to Measure a Room for Flooring

Below is a quick guide to working out how many square meters of wood flooring you need for your room.

We suggest you allow an additional 5% for wastage. (Our calculator will automatically add the 5% wastage).

Standard Room

  1. Find the two widest areas (a,b)
  2. Multiply the two sizes
  3. 4.35 x 5.25 = 22.83m²
  4. Total metres required 22.83m²
Standard Room

L Shaped Room

  1. Divide room into two rectangular sections (see plan)
  2. Take the four sizes and multiply as below
  3. 2.33 x 5.25 = 12.23m² and 1.75 x 4.25 = 7.43m²
  4. Add the two sizes together
  5. Total metres required 19.76m²
L Shaped Room

3 Way Room/Hallway

  1. Divide room into three rectangularsections
  2. Take all sizes and multiply them as below...
    • 1.10 x 1.75 = 1.925m²
    • 1.10 x 1.75 = 1.925m²
    • 5.00 x 1.00 = 5.00m²
  3. Add the three sizes together
  4. 1.925 + 1.925 + 5.00 = 8.85m²
  5. Total metres required 8.85m²
