How to Clean and Maintain an Oiled Wood Floor

To ensure your oiled wooden floor is maintained correctly it is important you use the correct cleaning products from the start and carry our regular cleaning and maintenance.

All oiled floors when cleaned regularly become easier to look after and harder wearing.

Before you start it is important to make sure you have the correct cleaning products and equipment to clean and maintain the solid wood flooring, see below for some examples.

Regular Cleaning

Step 1) Dry cleaning: Vacuum or sweep the floor to ensure all loose grit or dirt is removed prior to cleaning as this can cause the flooring to become scratched, regular vacuuming to remove dirt and grit will preserve the life of the flooring as walking across a dirty floor can act as an abrasive and slowly erode the oiled surface.

Step 2) Once the solid wood flooring has been dry cleaned you can now apply a recommended floor cleaner for example Floor Service Parquet cleaner, mix 100ml of cleaner with approximately 10 litres of clean water apply to the brushed and oiled floor using a well squeezed mop. If the flooring is extremely dirty it can help to have a second bucket of clean plain water to clean the mop instead of dirtying the wood floor cleaner. For dirtier areas use a Floor Service Hand Cloth. Once clean, do not walk on the oiled wood flooring till dry.

Irregular Cleaning and Maintenance

Irregular cleaning depends on the intensity of use, applying a coat of Floor Service Maintenance oil will help to refresh not only the look of the flooring but also increase the strength of the oiled finish, while also eliminating light surface scratches.

Floor Service offer a white maintenance oil for white oiled floors and natural maintenance oil for darker shades.

First thoroughly clean the floor with Floor Service Parquet Cleaner (see dry & wet cleaning of the floor) and allow it to dry completely.

Apply Floor Service Maintenance Oil to small areas in an even layer with a cloth with the grain of the wood For larger areas we recommend using a buffing machine. Dribble the Maintenance Oil in the shape of a snake and polish it in with a buffing machine with a thick white buffing pad.
