Oak flooring is becoming ever more popular today and is being used in both homes and commercial environments. It has become more and more popular as it can be bought in a variety of colours or gradients depending of your décor choices, it is so versatile that it is possible to have a different look in each room of your home with this wood. People also tend to choose oak flooring as it is more durable than a traditional flooring such as carpet.
During the re-decorating process, budgeting is key and oak does not need to break the bank, at Floorsave our oak flooring is available from as little as £9.99 per m². If your flooring of choice is slightly more expensive, you can be assured that it is an investment that will add value to your home and this is especially true if you take good care of your wood flooring. Unlike carpet, you will need to be careful when moving items of furniture across your new floor, as scratches will decrease the value that your flooring can add to your home.
Engineered oak flooring is comparable to solid oak, although many peoples' first reaction is that it simply is not the real thing – however, these days engineered flooring, not to be confused with laminate flooring, does have the same qualities as solid wood flooring. Solid flooring from oak timber boards is a completely natural product, these boards are semi porous materials and are affected by conditions such as humidity, damp / moisture and heat. If wood flooring absorbs moisture then the boards will swell, typically width ways more than length ways. Therefore, when laying solid wooden flooring, there needs to be a gap left to allow for swelling, otherwise the boards could buckle in the middle and become uneven.
Engineered flooring however, has a different kind of timber board, it looks the same, in most cases and it will last as long as solid oak flooring but it is a more forgiving and structurally stable floor. This is because solid oak is attached to multi laminate plywood, the layers are glued in opposite directions and so the structure is very secure and resists movement.
