Engineered Flooring: In A Class of its Own

Whilst we at Floorsave are, naturally, keen supporters of all wood flooring solutions, even we have to acknowledge that when it comes to the capacity to deal with the increased stresses and strains of modern living; engineered flooring is a class apart.

Engineered wood flooring is comprised of three different layers. Whilst the bottom and middle layers are generally made of softwood or fibreboard, thereby providing the requisite strength and stability, the top layer is 100% hardwood and this veneer can typically be up to 6mm in thickness. The fact that this layer is genuine hardwood means that the finish of engineered flooring is directly comparable with that of solid wood flooring.

Unlike some wood flooring options however, the additional layers mean that engineered flooring can withstand greater extremes of moisture and heat. By allowing movement between the layers, it can adapt more effectively to the torsions caused by these variations. This means there is no drama when spillages occur, when you pass through the seasons or when they are matched with rugs (as long as suitable underlay is used).

A quality hardwood veneer will provide many years of wear and will last as long as a solid wood floor. Whilst the overwhelming majority of hardwood surfaces are never refinished, the fact remains that with a professional sanding procedure removing less that 0.5mm, the option is always available to entirely change the finish of your engineered wood flooring as your developing tastes and changes in interior design fashions dictate. Furthermore, this flexibility allows for full rehabilitation in the unfortunate event of damage occurring to any area of the flooring.

They are ideal for installing over virtually all types of subfloors, including concrete bases (assuming the moisture content is below proscribed levels) and plywood/particle board foundations; generally with a simple gluing. Also, unlike certain alternative flooring options, it can even be installed above underfloor heating, assuming that you comply with fitting requirements.

With the engineered flooring that we at Floorsave provide, the ordering and fitting process couldn't be simpler. We cut the flooring planks in our British factory to comply with the specific requirements of your room design and when it is delivered, the pieces are installed with a minimum of fuss over an appropriate underlay.
