At Floorsave, we believe that oak flooring is a great addition to any home. Oak flooring can add class and increase the value of your property significantly. When choosing oak flooring, don't just think about the style of flooring you are after as there are other implications. Real wood is subject to constant changes, which are brought about by the fluctuating temperatures of the environment. When wood is subject to changing temperatures it expands and contracts, causing some difficulty for home owners. A way to battle this is to use engineered oak flooring as it is the strongest type of wood for homes and is suitable for underfloor heating.
Heating Systems can affect solid wood flooring. When the heat meets with the wood, it contracts which can cause unsightly and unnecessary gaps in your floor. If you would like to install underfloor heating, but have wooden flooring, Floorsave would strongly recommend using engineered oak flooring or perhaps even laminate flooring
So, why can I use engineered oak flooring over an underfloor heating system? The answer is that engineered flooring doesn't really expand or contract when it is cooled or heated. Engineered flooring solutions are made up of a softwood core that is resistant to movement. Engineered oak flooring is so durable as it is made up of high-quality oak board. We strongly recommend that only water piped underfloor heating is used. Some manufacturers do recommend that any solid wood flooring less than 100mm wide is suitable, but don't waste your money and always use engineered oak flooring if you are interested in having underfloor heating installed. Just like humans need to acclimatise to visiting a hot country, oak flooring has to do the same! When both the underfloor heating system and the oak flooring have been installed make sure that you turn the heating on for at least two weeks, just to acclimatise the flooring.
At Floorsave we stock several types of oak flooring, from engineered oak flooring to solid oak flooring. If you are looking to install underfloor heating, we strongly recommend that you buy your engineered oak flooring with us as we have over 17 years of experience in dealing with quality wood flooring.
